Surprisingly, most ex-military personnel keep either no weapons at home or a single home defense or hunting weapon. I keep a 9mm but nothing else. However, rednecks are another story entirely. :o) And here in the south you should assume your neighbor has not just one weapon, but a whole arsenal just because you never know!

>>The M2 .50 caliber machine gun is one of the best guns out there. Worth its weight in gold. I think the The AK-47 and AK-74 are more suitable (if not as accurate of course) than the M16 for Iraq. The 5.45 39mm 30 caliber ammo carries 20% less recoil and creates a wound cavity up to 30% greater than the M16 5.56mm and yaws after only about 7cm of tissue penetration. The distance that military bullets travel point-forward before yawing is critical to wounding effects. Most troops are now issued M4s (it also has jamming problems) until the newer combat weapon become standard. M4s are much more convenient because it is lighter and shorter. Special ops are issued mostly MP5s and the M4 SOPMOD still. We both know that reliability of weapons changes under different conditions and the hot, dry, dusty conditions of Iraq as well as maneuvering in/out of vehicles on patrol and cinderblock buildings changes things alot. Most targets are under 100 yards. There is a variety of M16A4s, M2
>>.50 cal, AT4 anti-tank launcher, M4 carbines, M249 SAW and M14 and M24 Sniper rifles out there. Sometimes a M240 as well. Poor penetration of 5.56mm rounds in cinderblocks is a problem and those riduculous comments I see all the time about how reliable the M16 is when proper maintenance is employed really p_sses me off. In my opinion, going into shock and dying of bleeding is no more humane than instant death from a larger, more powerful caliber. Remember when the Swedish wound ballistics program was trying to discredit the M16 as an inhumane weapon while at the same time Sweden was producing a 7.62 military bullet that caused far more extensive wounds than the M16? If insurgents were marching down your road what would be your weapon of choice?
