Absolutely, no question there. My unit transitioned from the M60A3 tank before I got there, and I heard nothing but bad about the M85. Everyone was pretty happy that the Abrams had the M2HB instead. It was a ball to shoot from a tripod mount, too.

Personally I think it was pretty short-sighted of MacArthur to shove the M14 down our allies throats in the 1950's. If we had gone with the 7x49 EM2 that the English and Belgians were developing, we'd have been better off. It is interesting that we're now looking at a 6.8mm cartridge to solve some of the knockdown problems the .223 has.
