>My wife has the same view -- me however, I prefer to be comfortable and I am not trying to impress anyone by what I am wearing. I agree that the clothing should be in good taste (me in a tank top undershirt, cut-off jeans, and flip-flops or a woman in a halter top and shorts cut up the rear-end would not be appropriate!) However, when I was dating my wife, I dressed up more (then I was working to impress her!).

>In general, I think most people want to be comfortable -- that means jeans or other types of clothing that is not constricting. If an establishment (such as a resteraunt) has a dress code that I do not want to adhere to, then I don't go there (there are plenty of other choices). When I am at a client site I do as the client does (old saying: When in Roman, do as the Romans do).
I love to be comfortable as well and, in fact, my sister and I just had this conversation the other day. She'll give up comfort to achieve the look she wants, but I won't.
The thing I've learned, though, is that you can generally find something comfortable at almost any level of dress. I no longer buy shoes that hurt my feet (big issue with women's shoes); takes me longer to shop, but it's worth it.
