John,

I Thought that already answered this question in the message #1072217. Am I missing something?

> VFP Help says: "avoid using indexes on fields that contain only a few discrete values, such as a logical field. In these cases, the index contains only a small number of entries, and the overhead of maintaining the index probably outweighs the benefit it provides when searching."
>
>Back to Inmates.cStatus where there are only 2 values, OPEN and CLOSED, it seems VFP is telling me it would NOT be a good idea to index on cStatus. At any point in time, 75% of the records in Inmates are CLOSED. Probably 95% of the work performed by users is on OPEN accounts.

>So, should I create the index or not? It seems it would be good to do so but it also seems VFP help is telling me it will not.
