First of all, for our foreign friends, BCS stands for "Bowl Championship Series." It is a ratings and selection system that was invented a few years ago to decide the national championship of American college football. Paradoxically, considering football's status as the big money maker on campus, men's football remains the only college sport with no clear playoff system.

The BCS was intended to end all that. It has not. Every season there has been dispute about which two teams deserve to play for the championship. It really isn't a fair system. Just have a tournament, guys. This isn't rocket science. (What it is, unsurprisingly, is money).

This year there will be no dispute whatsoever about the two teams who will compete. They were expected to be contenders and they have disappointed no one. Both are undefeated. There was some talk this past week or two about what the BCS would do if one or the other lost this weekend. Forget all that.

Texas, #2, played in the Big 12 championship game against Colorado and won 70-3. Yes, you read that right.

USC, #1, is still playing. They are ahead of #12 UCLA, a team previously defeated only once, 52-6 early in the fourth quarter. You read that right, too. The presumptive Heisman Trophy (best college football player) winner Reggie Bush of SC locked it down, running for over 200 yards barely after halftime. I distrust extravagant predictions but I think he is the most electrifying runner to come out of college since Barry Sanders.

This is going to be a game. I can't wait.
