The real problem is that it needs to be stiff enough to move reasonably easy, but still be edible and able to be cut when it's time to eat. Any ideas anyone?

One of the issues is how to slide it off without having to use something like parchment paper, which couldn't be left between the top and the cake. When I posted my suggestion I didn't read the whole thread. Interestingly we have the same idea. And I know nothing about the whole baking business... I cook only ocassionally...
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
