The problem seems to be that the solution (icon?) is not showing in the solution explorer only the project one is.

If I create a blank solution I can then add a project to the solution as advertised, however as soon as that project is added the solution icon disappears and leaves me wuth just the project that i just added.Which is why i could not add a project to the solution! I was trying to add it to a project.

I get to go home soon so i will check my home machine to see if it happens there.Then maybe after that some sleep and see if it still acts stupid in the morning.
