I forgot to mention we did disable all power saving modes except monitor, so I guess we'll try that next.

As for "checking" all the NICs, cables, etc, I thought the Dell systems (they are Dimensions, aka home computers) might have some funny sleep mode for their onboard NIC, but I didn't want to spend time buying and installing new cards yet. However, I don't want to hang out on the phone with Dell, so maybe I'll try a new card.

>Typically this is caused by the computer losing its connection. You have checked/replaced all cables, nics, hubs, routers, switches, etc already. As a test, turn off all power saving modes and screen savers (even in cmos) on the workstation completely and make sure none of them kick in to see if it still occurs. Set turn off monitor to never, turn off hard disks to never and system standby to never. Disable hibernation and make sure the cmos is correct for testing also.
