I rarely get calls. We have an intercom on all the phones, so someone can just dial your extension and start talking to you on speaker. I don't get many of those either, so I guess I'm lucky. I hated my phone so much at one place I worked, I opened it up and taped a piece of tissue to the ringer (there were the old-style phones) so it would mute the sound. It didn't have any affect on the, ahem, volume of calls, but it did seem to make it a bit easier to deal with.

>One telephone (only) is a must. Right now I have three separate phones and each handles multiple lines. It is physically impossible to keep up with all three phones at once. We are not supposed to get direct phone calls (they all should go through our help desk) but somehow, all three phones will ring simultaneously and then sometimes multiple lines on each phone system. Sometimes the program changes are waiting til after hours due to the numerous interruptions. The helpdesk will call us on one line and then when we don't answer they start hitting all the other lines not thinking that maybe we are already on the phone with someone else. It's crazy and a terrible distraction. Also allowing the helpdesk to be able to reach us at anytime has turned into them calling us for the same problems repeatedly and not paying attention when we give them instructions to use the next time. They even have a database for that. Every meeting we sit in the correct procedures are repeated, but the
