ah, so it's not really XP Pro with some addon for media stuff.

>Because only Windows Professional has support for domain controllers so Media Center is not recommended for workplace environments where a domain controller is required.

>>I just got a new Dell, and it appears you are correct. Why would one want to modify the Dell system order and add XP Pro then, it adds about 150 to the price.

>>>If you have Windows Media Center 2005, it is essentially Windows XP Professional Edition with Service Pack 2 (SP2) and an additional application, Media Center, and related supporting services.

It will need it to behave properly on a network, as does WinXP Pro. I am hoping it has all the components/features WinXP Pro has with the added media-centric features, without adding any incompatibilities, bugs (not significant ones, at least), or security problems. I can always wipe the drive and install WinXP Pro, but would like to keep MCE if it won't cause me any problems.
