>My department just migrated to NTServer form Novell and I have a question about performance. We have a Compaq 200Mhz server with 64 meg ram and 8 gig HD, Ntserver 4.0 w/service pack 3. The weird thing is that our old 486 66Mhz 64 meg ram compaq running novell seems faster when running my VFP 5.0 app when compared to the new NTServer. This server is running as a BDC in a medium size domain structure and I currently have 20 users on the system at any given time. My exe is run from the workstations which access the data on the server. Are there some basic suggestions that someone could offer me to optimize this new NT box to run applications faster.

I've been "doing" NT since version 3.0 and can tell you that 64 meg of ram isn't enough. Double the ram and then make you page file twice that size. If you can have the page file hitting a different disk altogether you'll get better performance and it should be a fat partition. FAT has less overhead than NTFS because it doesn't have the secondary tables for security. You should also check all the services you are running. If you can disable some, you'll get improved performance.
