I recently moved from vfp7 to vfp9 and therefore missed the controversy about TableValidate. Some of my users are now getting 'file is in use' errors. I gather that setting TableValidate to 4 will supress the error message. The help file is less than useful when it says:

Suppress "File is in use (Error 3)" if table header cannot be locked when opening the table. Requires setting the first bit to validate record count when opening a table.

Question: What does the phrase 'setting the first bit to validate record count when opening the table' mean and how does one do it? There are no examples.
A problem is a problem only as long as it has a possible solution. Lacking that, it becomes a FACT!
