I was able to resolve the problem. We use a form class for displaying progress during certain operations. The form class itself displays outside of the FoxPro window. As soon as I removed the calls to this class, the MESSAGEBOX function started working.

I have tried to replicate the problem on its own, but it seems to occur only when the application has first done a large process on big data files.
