I just read this entire thread and there are a lot of good ideas.

Not one person mentioned remote control. I have many customers who use my obsolete FPD26 app with large tables (80 thosand patient records, 1.8 million transactions, etc) over 56K lease lines (not that expensive anymore) and the performance is acceptable. Look at Close-Up and others. The remote site can use that old 386 or 486 that you were going to throw away.
