That is not entirely correct. The RDC autmation controler has been there since CR 7.0 as an add on and was installed by default in CR 8.0. You're referring not to use the CPRE automation server and the CR report activeX control.

OTOH, the 8.0 version was not particular stable and had some major compatibility issues with CR 7.0 reports. I'd advise not to use CR 8.0 for this reason only.
