No, that's not possible Fred because George Bush was not president back then. As the entire world knows, all evil begins and ends with George Bush. (Sorry, I just couldn't refuse!) :o)

>It's certainly nothing new. They just have better tools now to investigate these kinds of things than they had that long ago. At the time, I didn't think much of it, as the Cold War was still in full swing and it would have surprised me if it wasn't investigated. I don't see why people would be so surprised now if it attracts attention. Big Brother is (and has been) watching. ;)

>>I meant that I wouldn't suspect (be suspicious) that it never happened because it has been happening all along and long before President Bush and 9/11. I understood from his message that he questioned the authenticity of the story and that maybe it never happened. I guess I misunderstood his writing. Oh well, wouldn't be the first time! :o)

>>>This stuff has always been checked out. About 30 years or so ago, I did a report on the Soviet Union for a social studies class in junior high school. I had requested information from several of the communist states via their embassies here in the US. My package arrived in an envelope with a letter from the FBI wondering what was the purpose of my request.

>>>>I wouldn't be too suspicious. While this specific story may not be verified yet or it may not all, this has gone on for some time now. Most citizens are blind to it and when it happens to one, the public assumes that the Feds must have had more on the person that what the person claims. I heard again at lunch time from a friend of mine that you have nothing to fear unless you are doing something wrong. How absolutely naive our country has become amazes me. It's becoming as if the Bill of Rights do not exist unless you are from another country. This is happening daily to Arab Americans. They are still U.S. citizens and have the same protection as all citizens. Our country is becoming more racist instead of less - and all within the last 4 years. It appears that we do not have the protection of the Bill of Rights anylonger.

>>>>I heard on the news in interviews over the weekend that downloads and checkouts at libraries of subversive material has always been reported - but especially more so since 9/11. In the past it was investigated only a small percentage of the time and most were assumed to be for research or curiosity purposes. That assumption is no longer the case.
