What's a "savatage alert"? Never having been in the army I'm not too well up on some terms.

>We were on a savatage alert in 1965 at 0200 hours. We were in teams of two. The guy I was with was being court marshaled. The mans OIC was in his vehicle and the guy next to me yelled, “Halt MF” three times rapidly. He then emptied his clip (we were issued M1 Carbines at that time and M16’s in 1967), into the windshield of the OIC’s cab. Lucky the OIC was not hit.
