One way to determine is what service is best economically. Server services usually have menu prices. Linux domains are typically cheaper than IIS - most of the world is (about 70%) is linux. With Linux you might use JSP (very similar to ASP). Some menus include MySQL (and an OLEDB - ADO - RecordSet) with their ASP.
The people to whom your question is most important is Microsoft. They would prefer you purchase ASP.NET services.
But all of the backend tier objects (ASP/JSP/ASP.NET) will do pretty much the same job - it depends on what you can spend and who you need to sell it to.
Is your server in your "shop", or is your shop using "rented" space from a commercial domain service?
