The simplest way arounf your problem is to modify your candidate index to filter out deleted records. You can do this in the table designer by putting !deleted() in the filter column of the index page.

In my previous post, I wanted you to be aware that doing this will slow down adding of records, because Rushmore cannot use filtered indexes (See help on Rushmore). To get back your speed in queries, create another index like the one you had, and don't specify it as candidate nad don't filter it.
