Move the conversation away from "tools". Talk about yourself and solutions you have developed for other users. Some IT guy daydreaming about redmond shrimp might be whispering in someones ear.

You are the one providing the solution - not VFP.

I use VFP because it allows me to do anything and because it is "entrenched". VFP also has the fastest native data engine available. We no longer need to be "shy" about using VFP. It is a means to an end - a delivered project.

I use VFP because I can estimate how much and how long it will take to deliver a project. Prospects like schedules being met and costs being controlled.

I spoke with prospects a few weeks back. They have a VFP app. Not complicated - but it does use OCX controls. They need enhancements. They talked with some NOT guys. The only thing the NOT guys knew was that "NOT" was part of MS's "vision". They did not know anythng about project development and data - and could not even provide an estimate. I know of another BIG shop that hired some NOT guys - they have spent over 2 million dollars in four years and the project is still not delivered. The promise was 7 months.

NOT is a ruse for sloppy system shops and developers to hide behind. Real NET development is outsourced.

The only thing NOT has going for it is the shabby grid projects VFP "consultants" were hawking years ago - and a false perception that the user market is buying into this "vision" thingie.

It aint gonna happen. VB was dead at VB 6 - VFP is still here still in development - even NOT guys are looking at ways to implement VFP's data engine.

There is no advantage that any tools can claim over VFP. With XML and XML Messaging - all that stuff is swept away.

VFP FP and FPW are everywhere (even in streaming video clients).

The only thing the NOT guys have going for them are the sloppy projects they developed while they were pretending to be VFP developers!:-)

One issue might be that VB developers used active X (tree view list view, etc), because VB did not have grids. So VB apps were generally prettier than VFP apps laced with grids. Hopefully - your demo projects to get the gig are not cascades of grid from solutions.
