Just like the chalk line around the corpse - which is never done in real life (or death). The ten code removal is quite fresh, I've heard about it just a few weeks ago, and you don't expect them to readjust all the previous stuff, 1984-style, like they do with cigarettes and ashtrays on historical photographs.

>Maybe cos it takes no less time to say "10-25" than, say, "robbery" (please don't give me the correct code), the rookie doesn't have to rack his brains for those vital split-seconds to get the right code, numbers might be misconstrued where words won't, like "Ten - {crackle} - five" vs "Rob - {crackle} - y" (was the crackle 20, 30 or 40?)

Sounds like a good reason to me. Even though the quality of sound nowadays is much better even on those tiny tin cans, there's quite a chance of being misheard when there's someone yelling, shooting or screaming nearby.
