I got my daughter a one of the Sony DVD camcorders for Christmas. It records onto 1.4gb discs which will hold about 30 minutes.

I can pop the dvd into my notebook and Windows Media player will pop up and display the selection menu and play the segments. But I copied the dvd to my hard drive, double clicked one of the .vob files and WMP just sits there displaying a black screen. Any ideas why it won't play it from the hard drive? WinDVD which shipped with the computer will play from both the dvd drive and the hard drive.

Also has anybody got recommendations for software that will allow editting of the video segments for burning to the fullsize dvd?
