We've done it back in DOS days - before we had internet - by using Telix, the best scripted communications package of the time that we knew of. We'd have scripts for both sides of the application, one to be the host, and the other to call it, and then log in, send the file using zModem protocol, log out.

Nowadays, it's much easier, and more reliable, to have these files sent via a FTP server, or as email attachments, provided that both machines have internet access (which they usually do).
