But by that reasoning swimming pools should be outlawed as well. Too many parents fail to safeguard them from their children or the neighborhood children. I do get your point - my neighbor's son got angry at another boy one day and a shovel was handy so he started chasing the other boy with the shovel until a parent stopped him. If he had a gun handy, well then who knows what would happen. Do we outlaw shovels? We cannot outlaw everything that could be used incorrectly or in the heat of the moment as a deady weapon. Take away your kitchen knives, no fireplaces because we have to get rid of the tools, no swimming pools, the list goes on and on. There are sufficient locks available now for guns (not just a gun case but a trigger lock) - those should be made a requirement by law.
