I'm using AVG (http://www.grisoft.com/) freebie for years. No problems ever, except when my firewall went flaky and didn't let it download the new signature files.

It's free for private use. I'm also seeing a lot of mail sites checking the mail with it - I'm getting quite a lot of emails signed with AVG.
