Hi Terry,
>It takes a lot of time to learn the subtlties - but again - a treeview or any navigation control is only as good as the the underlying table specification and the "practiced" skills of the developer.

>And I bet you're working on your 5th. Framework are so organic! But to me - the core of the application is how efficiently the tables and INDEX schemes are designed.

If I was to build another generation of framework, I wld consider
treeview as replacement for system menus! If you ask me VFP Menus are 'so yesterday' comparing to other tools/products. But yet they are quick and precise and users are comfortable with them. Nothing ever 'dissapears' from there :)

How good you can control/coordinate treeview with keyboard would be my main
consideration.

As for grids, they could be somewhat better natively, but they are manageable.
BTW FYI it is also possible to build/present hierarchical structures with VFP data / grid as well. Will send you screenshots if u r interested.

>Perhaps is different when you are out there, trying to sell your app
>to some corporate a****les. But that is not everybody's problem.

>Development shops that have golfers on their sales staff seem to do great - the delivery can suck - but the money still changes hands and the buyer has to live with it and the seller knows it. No one wants to admit they spent a million dollars on a dead dog - as long as it looked corporate and the deal was closed on a golf course. That's why I like mom and pop - they have no allegience to M$'s vision - they know quality and they know value - and they're ususally too busy to play golf.

Way it seem to me from this side of atlantic, it is perfect ground for
money laundering / corporate fraud. Especially with new NET 'vawe'
(but can be VFP as well)

Listen to this scenario :) ;
Criminal minded Executive hire Idiot for IT chief and then come up with HUGE multi year/milion IT project that will 'radically improve business process'.
Story hits the news, stock are rising... sunny day all the way.

DirtyBigName(golf)Vendor in deal with dirty executive, writes complex project plans/timeshedules (according to IT idiot specs), which board aproves without even looking/reading/understanding what is in there.
(for as long it is within budget)

IT idiot has become 'bigshot' leader of the project, NET(sweat) shop in India does the job for the DirtyVendor for some peanuts, while DBN(g)V bills accurately millions of bucks to corporate business.

Money changes accounts/hands, some nice villas are bought in Carebean area and then, after few years project colapses due to 'variety' of reasons.
After that, DirtyExecutive - fires IT idiot and gets away with 'being sharply critisized' by other board directors...
This story never hits the news - It is just another dull day in US corporate Business.
By the time everybody get to visit their new villas - technology changes! It is time again to make radicall improvements :)

Story above is my pure speculation, any similarity with real characters and events is clearly accidental.

Cheers & Have Great Year 2006 :))
