Please see http://www.breakthechain.org/exclusives/australiaguns.html, this imo totally justifies my suspicion when reading such articles. It comes with a lot of talk and opinion and seldomly with statistical numbers and facts.

Those article simply are not reliable because they don't back up the source. The numbers mentioned in your links are incorrect (300% rise number) or totally misleading by calculation percentages with a very low significance. A statistician would leave nothing left of such stories.
