Einar,

OK, Rod has contributed his time in a positive way; Kudos to him.

I'm not sure that there is anyone really anti-DotNet here. As far as Terry Thurber goes, he has had a small application (Rio) and for some time, he has challenged any of the nay-saying .Net crew to replicate it; period. He has been saying that for some time and finally, Rod has done it and done it quite quickly too. Terry probably threw that challenge down circa 12 months ago? All of the .NETers that poo-poo'ed his challenge as being a "waste of time" were in all probability doubtfull of their own .Net ability to deliver a response to Terry somewhat "cheesy" application.

Rod is the Editor in Chief of the Code Magazine, a .Net specialist journal. If Rod couldn't take and succeed with the "Rio challenge", then he had no business being in the position he is in. Rod probably had better things to be done but, as you have said, put his money where his mouth was. If it was that easy, then why didn't the other .Net "leading lights" here do as Rod has done just to shut Terry up? It could also be argued that Rod's efforts in promoting and educating others here about .Net is very good and possitive publicity for his magazine and his company - nothing wrong with that.

Either way, it has been done and that's it. There is no need to appear so openly smug because Fox'ers have or have not responded in a way that you deem appropriate given Rod's success with Rio.Net.

>Gary,
>I am not trying to be smug about this (well maybe a little, but in a constructive way if that is possible).
>I am looking forward to the discussion that is to come. I think it is great that Rod made the time to create these apps for VFP'ers to review and compare to VFP. Rod has put is code where his mouth is and taken up the challenge from the anti-.NET people in here. I don't think all of this will change anything for the extreemly anti-.NET people but for the people that want see what .NET is all about and maybe start playing around with a new language this will be great.

>Again, Rod has taken time to convert/create 2 demo apps to assist when comparing .NET to VFP. Out of respect for his work we should all download the apps and try to review the apps and try to compare performance to VFP.

>I am sure most people are coming back to work today after x-mas/new year vacation and there is a lot of catching up to do, but I hope this thread doesn't just die off now that Rod has put in time that he could otherwise have been spending with his family.

>>Hey Einar - no real need to be so smug about all of this. It doesn't help.

>>>Wow this thread (and the other one) got really quiet after you posted your RIO.Net conversion app and now this demo app :)
