You make a good point! I was 6 years old when television came to San Francisco. My awareness of the world was not the same as that of a child of today. Hard to say what the answer is but it does seem that the attitude of today is one of near paranoia.
Paranoia is due to many factors including our awareness of whatever the media insists upon presenting to us. One thing I notice the media likes to do is to find three similar stories about the same negative topic, even if they happen at the ends of the earth. We then feel connected to areas far from our homes. No one on earth is safe! :)
