There is a product on the market called "Coffee-Mate". It's a coffee whitener. When it first came on the market (they've changed the label since), the label said:
An Artificial edible oil substitute
I was never able to figure out whether that meant it was a substitute for an artificial edible oil created due to having run out of the artificial stuff, or an artificial substitute for a real edible oil created due to their not having a real substitute.
