>>>>If you mean an anarchy where each citizen is allowed to decided for him/herself which laws matter and which do not, and for cops to make the same sorts of decisions (this law matters; this other law doesn't matter), then sorry, I disagree. The job of a cop is to enforce the law. If it's a law you think doesn't matter, then tough. It's still the cop's job to enforce it.

>>>
>>>So I guess you would have turned Ghandi over to the British or Schindler to the Nazis? They disobeyed the Law. Our society EVOLVES by questioning and resisting abuse of authority. The authorities feel they cannot be corrupt because they support the law.
>>>
>>>Do you always obey the speed limit? Are you even aware of every little stupid law that exists? I'm not very religious, but maybe the Bible had it right. 10 commandments is plenty. Those of you who are religious, please correct me, but if you don't covet that spot at the front of the line, you won't cut in front of others, right?

>>If you are suggesting that laws upholding slavery, apartheid, ethnic suppression, etc are on a par with laws about crossing the road against a red light, then I have to disagree.
>>
>>If you feel we need a social rebellion so that people can be allowed to litter, then go for it. You will not have my support. We also disagree that ticketing speeders and jaywalkers and litterers is an abuse of authority. Those are reasonable laws. When the gov tries to introduce a law designed to suppress blacks or Jews, then I'll be right there beside you fighting it. But if I get caught jaywalking or speeding, or parking illegally, then I'll accept my fine. I might not like it, but It's not an abuse of authority.

>All laws are Law. Did you jaywalk safely? Did you park illegally because you had to get into the hospital? Laws without consideration is an abuse of us all. Law enforcement without thought is stupid - ahem - thoughtless. We should not be prosecuted for disobeying laws when they should not be applied. We should not be punished for defending our property against intruders or shooting back at criminals or spitting on a bully no matter the uniform.

Oh, I've broken laws too. I parked one night across the sidewalk. There was lots of room between my car and my friend's car in front of mine, but I still got a ticket. Ok, AFAIC that's fair. I broke the law (a not unreasonable law, IMHO) and I got a ticket. I could go and whine about it, but the fact is, I got caught. That's life. If I speed and get a ticket, so be it. If I litter (which I wouldn't) and get caught, fine (no pun intended). I have choices. I can choose to break the law or not. If I break it and get caught, I just figure mea culpa and deal with it.

My problem with the stories that were referred to is the whining that went on when they got caught.
