>>>I have just deployed a VFP 9 upgrade that uses Word automation extensively. The OLE code was revised to use VBA syntax to replace Word Basic commands used in the VFP5 version. The VFP9 code has been running in beta on selected workstations since August. After deployment yesterday, it runs on all but 3 of the workstations where the CreateObject line for the Word Application server fails. All them are Dell Dimension 2400s purchased with Office 2003 pre-installed. The error message is:
>>>
>>>OLE error code 0x80040111. ClassFactory cannot supply requested class.
>>>
>>>It’s similar but not identical to error messages reported by others here with the missing type library issue. Other Dell Dimension 2400s on the network run without problems. All of them were able to run the VFP 5 code with Word Basic commands without problems.
>>>
>>>I’m hesitant to say: Just uninstall Office and reinstall it, when I’m in California, they are in Washington State and their IT person is in South Africa for a month. Does this still look like the type library issue that has been identified by other folks here on UT or am I missing something?
>>>
>>>Also, if I do ask them to reinstall, is there a non-default option they specifically need to select? I don't have my Office CD with me.

>>If your message title were just "CreateObject error" and no other message, I would ask if that's an Office automation + a new Dell computer:)
>>It's a security issue. Check Dell documentation. They disable COM invocation of preinstalled Office software. You can give access with dcomcnfg.

Dan,
I don't know, I never had a Dell. Used a Dell computer back in 2002 (came for Devcon 2002 to US maybe you remember in F.Lauderdale) for a few days and hit there while trying to work with MSExcel. After going nuts and thinking it was VFP (as we always first blame) I decided to try from outside and created an HTM. Seeing it failed rest was easier. I remember Dell had some kind of documentation (software or hardcopy) and mentioned it there.

I love the idea behind "You cannot protect yourself so we do it for you" < g >
