>>>>Yeah, the Bible is a great inspirational book, and preachers can influence a lot of people - I just wish more of them would turn to more important things than following some political agenda (as this seems to be).
>>>
>>>Hilmar, what is more imortant than to follow someone political agenda ?? And if you can (mis)use the word of god, you clearly have a winner :)

>>What is more important is to make lots of money by having little old pensioners send you what dwindling cash they may have so that you can continue to preach the Word.

>Imagine people like Mr. Robertson without the ability to use any form of mass media? I think the world would be a better place.
>
>"Just send me your money and you will go to heaven". "Send me your money and I will pray for you". "Send me your money and you will get your pie in the sky". These are just three messages from three different Christian messengers who have been or are on television.

Oral Roberts did it best - "God said I need to raise $8,000,000.00 or He will kill me." The weird part of it is I would have assumed, being the God loving Christian he is, Roberts would have just kept his mouth shut and gone blissfully to meet God when the deadline hit.

>I once upset a Southern Baptist who was anti any religion other than his own. We were attending a Theology class in college and were discussing the basic differences between Catholics and Protestants. It was stated that “Catholics celebrate the Last Supper of Jesus, during Mass through communion” – also called the secondary of the mass. "Protestants have been given the divine right by God to interpret the Bible".
>
>I asked my Southern Baptist classmate, “If God has given you the divine right to interpret the Bible, why do you go to a church and allow a preacher to interpret the Bible for you”? My classmate became very upset, left class and never returned!
>
>If there is but one word (meaning or understanding) of God’s word why are there so many different Protestant faiths? That gets back to the ability of a Protestant to interpret the Bible. There are many interpretations of the Bible and potentially there are as many interpretations as there are people who read the "good book". What is it that God said? Send me your money and I will tell you! :)

>Perhaps to understand the meaning of the Bible is beyond the ability of the common man.

Isn't that exactly why Jesus said He spoke only in parables? - Matthew 13:10 through Matthew 13:17.
