>What is the equivalent of Ms (pronounced Miz) then? For when you are addressing a woman and you do not know if she is married or not?

It depends a bit on the perceived age. IF the woman is of an age that the chances are relatively high that she COULD be married, then it will be "mevrouw". If she's very young, then "juffrouw" is used. So, is there a problem for the lady if she is called mevrouw and still isn't married? No, not really. Let's say someone is of age 30 and not yet married, which can easilly be the case. Being called mevrouw at that age shows more respect than calling the lady juffrouw. So, is there a problem at age 25 and being called mevrouw? Well, she'll certainly start feeling old. :)

Male schoolteacher : meester

>>Female person married : mevrouw
