Hi Sergey

No, I don't, but then again I never have in this code before. Taking the hint, I did just put initialisation in, depending on TYPE(), but this hasn't made a blind bit of difference. Say the key I'm searching on is 101 (numeric), I just get to type the 1st 1 and the dialog valid fires. This is most perplexing. As far as I know the code hasn't changed for years, except recently I put in the mod to make integer fields 11 dig's long. It's possible my clumsy fingers deleted something, or accidentally changed it but I can't remember anything that appears to be missing, the code LOOKS fine and, as I said, it operates properly in debug.
