ScanSoft has a utility that will convert PDF into a Word format document. Basically it does an OCR type approach of conversion. I have the version 1.0 and it works ok -- I don't believe that it can be automated outside of MSWord as it acts more like a document conversion filter for opening documents. You could automate using it with MSWord.
