>>We just had a situation here in Canada where a gun collector kept his collection in a safe in his home. He actually took extraordinary precautions beyond what any normal person might. When he was on vacation, his place was broken into and the safe (though it apparently took 2 days) was broken into also. All the guns are now on the street being used to kill people.

>>We've also, in the past has shooting ranges broken into and guns stolen that were subsequently used to kill people.

>And how many cop progs have a suspect questioned "You own a gun, sir?" - "Yes but it was stolen a few months ago" (of course - not serious enough to have reported this fact to the police)

I'm not an advocate of personal handguns, but it's not the guns. It's the owners. Use gunlocks. Be responsible. I think more often than not, those cases where children find a gun and it goes off, the parents were probably fairly irresponsible to begin with. The ones I've heard of - purely anectdotal - the parents were suspected of being involved in drugs. Not the best home to begin with.
