>One of the biggest problems facing Tourettes suffers is that there are not enough of you. It's what has often been referred to as an orphan disease. The pharmaceutical companies aren't much interested in researching it or developing anything for it because they don't see much of a payback.
Actually, that's not correct. It's fairly common (don't remember the stats right now) and there are good medications for it. The hardest parts are getting the diagnosis and getting other people to understand that you're not just doing whatever it is to be annoying. My sister and brother-in-law and spending a lot of time dealing with the school.
My nephew started medication in the fall and the difference in his behavior is amazing. He's so much easier to be with.
Also, apparently, many folks with Tourette's also have OCD and/or ADHD. In fact, my nephew was first diagnosed with ADHD and get the Tourette's diagnosis a few months later.
