Well I'm not retired, and certainly not retiring (double entendre)

Hey, I've enough on my plate with MapBasic programs and obscure errors, v. primitive editor, crappy Help (where you can't do a find in a huge page of text to get what you want) and, major horror, a debugger that doesn't work when MapBasic is being used in conjunction with another package. Now the ONLY reason to use MB is to drive MapInfo GIS, so this situation is like saying you can drive a car, so long as you don't consume any petrol while you're doing it.
