AFAIK you are not breaking copyright laws when you quote someone and provide a form of link/reference to where you quoted from. I had to quote a lot of papers in my thesis and project papers in college and I always added a list of referenced books/articles.
Here on UT when a thread is copied from one post to another there is a link between the two posts (in the database), so I don't think it is illegal to have that option set on.

Another interesting question though is: To who/whom does the stuff that we post here on UT belong to? Does Michel "own" the rights?
