>SQL Server 2005 Express is also free now and has enough capacity for most apps. There is compulsion to buy expensive anything. You can access VFP databases on those same network shares and on those same copies of Windows that you are running your VFP apps on.

How is MS staying afloat?:-) That's almost criminal!

>>With VFP, the customer does not need to buy a SQL/Server license and all the "lifetime" expenses associated with those products.
>
>Neither with .NET. As per above, or you can buy VFP for your backend or use free MYSQL.

What can NET do that cannot be mimiced by VFP?

>
>>The 90% of the market that does not need SQL / Server products that buy into this "vision" propaganda (fear sells!) from MS would be called "suckers" in "older" times.

>Why are you calling me names? I haven't called you any.
Did I respond to your message on this thread? Did I call you a name? I didn't mean too.

A lapse - a sophmoric cheap shot - Little voices in my head are telling me over an over - "You will be a SQL Janitor - You will be a SQL ..". I didn't hear these voices untill I downloaded a Windows media codex - at first it had a pronounced flicker - now I don't notice it that much - now I hear:
Rin atin tin Rin a tin tin Rin a tin tin - and I have an urge to eat shrimp!

>>JavaScript will do all that you can do with VB.NET or C# - and that is what most of the world is using. It's free and it works on LINUX and MAC and WIN systems.
>
That is complete bunk. Why do you spread misinformation?
Over 70% of the servers on the internet are not Windows - that is not bunk - most are Linux or Unix. JavaScrip Java and JSP and Apache are flight proven - shops like JPL and similar engineering facilities are using linux to model the dynamics of air flow and meteor impacts. Microsft was recently instructed to re-install the Sun Work Stations on some naval weapons platforms.

What can you do with NET that you absolutely can't do with VFP - except - of course - the Remond Software Janitor's Annual Shrimp Buffet - and the dispassionate winks from the meeting room's cosignee as a busboy is assigned to refill the sauce dispensors!
Imagination is more important than knowledge
