The vast majority of people really *want* to be like everybody else. It gives them emotional/psychological security. They don't want to be out on the limb all by themselves. They want to buy in to the marketing smooze. There are way too many volumes of psych textbooks on the subject. However, one of the symptoms of this behavior lies in their response to criticism, just like a mainstream religion. Those who critcize (or question) are evil! Eeeeevil!
And they say that just as they are running in a pack with all the other lemmings, straight off the cliff.
