And what's most frightening about this is that people will only see the news they want to see. Same goes from commentary. My local paper's op-ed page runs from extreme right (Phyllis Schlafly and Cal Thomas) to extreme left (Molly Ivins), with lots in between. While Schlafly and Thomas generally make me furious, I tend to read at least part of their columns as they appear, so I have some insight into what the folks on the other side are thinking. But it's hard to imagine that if I customized my own "newspaper," I'd intentionally choose people who make me that mad.
Similarly, I read things in the paper that I doubt any checklist of what I'm interested in would pick up. I tend to agree that this stuff is inevitable, but I don't think it's for the better.
