It actually means a specialist (E-4) or Corporal (E-4) that has assumed the role and responsibility of a Sergeant but not the pay yet. :o) No, for me it became handy when I became an interrogator. A LOT of acting in that job.

>BTW, you were in the USAF, right? You are aware of the totally different rank structure in the RAF, with unusual names for ranks, e.g. "Wing Commander" for "Captain", and their equivalents? When I read "The Omen" there was reference to an American soldier during WW II who had stolen the Jeep of an "RAF colonel". I thought "C'mon, man! If you're going to write about such stuff, get it right!"
