I know this is a rudimentary basic question and I am sure an easy solution, but for the life of me, I can't get something this simple to work.

I have a report that needs to display the contents of a field from the database. The field is CHARACTER and contains a specifically entered format... that is, the first two characters are alpha only, the third character is numeric only, and any remainder can be either alpha or numeric.. no spaces.

I need to display it on the report with a space inserted for clarity between the 3rd and 4th characters in the field....

Example:

RA1046D54 should print as RA1 046D54

I tried using a format code in the field and I also tried using a transform... both with XX# XXXXXXXXXXXX In the example above, the zero was dropped and I ended up with: RA1 46D54

Any suggestions?
