>>Sergey,
>>thanks for the link. In reading the doc below the download link I see what might be the problem. It says:
>>If you 'SET LIBRARY TO vfpencryption.fll' in Visual FoxPro and get an error saying that the FLL is invalid, then you (or your client) don't have the required C runtimes installed.
>>
>>I installed Open Office a few days ago and I'll bet that it installed new C runtimes that overwrote the ones that the old version needed. OK, just a guess but I think better than a 60% chance that's it. What do you think?

>I agree that it has something to do with C/C++ runtimes but I doubt that OpenOffice would overwrite them with older version.

Sergy,
I meant that Open Office overwrote the old C runtimes with a newer version. The newer (by only two weeks) verison was the one that ran ok. The old version was the one that had problems and started giving the error.

I now have 3 versions of the .FLL.
I tried the 9-12-05 version on my Win XP SP2 laptop and it worked fine while my desktop, also Win XP SP2, but with Open Office 2.0 installed gives the error.

Both computers are mapped to the same network folder. I tried the latest version (November 2005) just downloaded from the link you gave me and it gives the same error until you install the new C runtimes. Then it runs fine.

I also tried my trusty old Win 2K PC. It also ran the 09/27/2005 version just fine.

Bottom line is this. The 09/27/2005 version will run on anything without having to update the C runtime and with Open Office installed. (It also runs ok with the new C runtimes installed.) Unless I need to run the Hash functions I am going to stick with that for now. The thought of changing a C runtime on hundreds of individual small customer computers all over the country is... well you get the idea.
