Title:
Process remaining open when VFP closes
Since we have installed an ISA firewall on our system network some months ago, we have been having erratic problems with FoxPro. One specific situation we have identified is as follows:
We use WWIPStuff.dll's "SendMail" to send e-mail from within our applications when we don't want to bring up OutLook directly. This worked fine until the ISA was installed. Now, everything still appears to work fine. E-mail is sent w/o a problem, etc. The only noticeable difference is that when the application shuts down, IF e-mail was sent, the .exe is still listed as open in the Windows Task Manager "processes" pane. Not in the "applications" pane, only in the "processes" pane. (We have tested this to confirm that the problem occurs as of sending e-mail; if no e-mail is sent, the application completely shuts down (when desired) as it should, leaving no traces. We can replicate this in any of our applications, and it doesn't occur using those same applications at other sites which don't have ISA installed.) This left-open process causes error messages when either FoxPro for Windows applications are closed on that PC, or the PC itself is shut down.
FWIW, we have noticed possibly related issues with VFP not properly closing MS Word automation instances now, & PCAnyWhere file transfers also seem to leave something finished but not closed.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Randy W.
