>So, anyway . . . A doctor, a lawyer and a mathematician were discussing the relative merits of having a wife or a mistress. The lawyer says: "For sure a mistress is better. If you have a wife and want a divorce, it causes all sorts of legal problems. The doctor says: "It's better to have a wife because the sense of security lowers your stress and is good for your health. The mathematician says: "You're both wrong. It's best to have both so that when the wife thinks you're with the mistress and the mistress thinks you're with your wife, you can do some mathematics.

It was about free love, if anyone remembers what it assumed - so the guy answered with "...and I can go to the barn and take a nap on the hay", because the assumption was that he could have two relations at the same time, with the women knowing of each other and not complaining. But that part was lost in the lore - and yet nobody notices that both wife and mistress know of each other and don't say a word in your version of the joke.

Here's a more professional one:

In communist times, a committee has to decide who will be the next CEO of an enterprise. They interview five candidates, with just one question for each: how much is 2+2. The answers:

A lawyer: "Two plus two make four, unless provided otherwise by a federal, state or local law, or unless agreed differently between the parties in a contract or other legally binding document, which I can write for you right away"

A mechanical engineer: "Two plus two should be somewhere between 3.998 and 4.002, unless we want to introduce additional safety and constructional stability, in which case it better be between 3.950 and 4.050 or wider, depending on whether we are designing a spoon or a bridge"

A mathematician: "In normal algebra, 2+2 would be exactly four, and I can prove that to you using just algebra, or set theory, or geometry. Likewise, we could build a different algebra, where 2+2 would make 1, 5, 500,000,000 or pi, and I would be able to prove that accordingly."

An economist: "Only in theory would 2+2 make four; in real life, it's anywhere between one and ten, depending on general supply and demand, price of gold, oil and basic commodities. In extreme cases, 2+2 may be without any value at all, or may cost a fortune."

A psychiatrist doesn't speak for the first three minutes, which he uses to stare into each committee member in turn. Then he speaks: "Comrades, I don't want you to be honest with me - be honest with yourselves. Think, and try to remember... as far as your childhood, if need be... since when are you tormented with this problem?"

Now the question is: who was appointed as the new CEO?
