This one really bugged me because there is a command but I couldn't seem to execute it from vfp. If you run a macro in excel you'll find that the command:

Chdir "c:\excel\files"

gets executed if you start to save as... (and change the directory to c:\excel\files) but don't complete it. If you figure out how to run this macro from vfp, then maybe it would work.
