I hope the question is serious.

Swimmers actually do have a higher body fat level than runner or cyclists.

It's a know fact that swimmers are generally "big eaters".

Another theory although not proved is, that the body is protecting himself from loosing body temperature by building up the body fat level (sounds convincing to me).

BTW: I don't know how old your nephew is, but if he's in his teens and doesn't have problems with his weight (nowadays that's often the case..), I don't recommend dieting unless supervised by a professional. It's better to eat "healthy" food (I consider fast food as not healthy).
